SP Charan, the son of veteran playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) has urged the public to stop spreading rumours about his father's health condition, following the latter's affliction from COVID-19.

"I usually post Appa's health updates after I have a discussion with the medical team from the hospital.

"But unfortunately, I am forced to put up a post in the morning. Regardless of whether it is COVID negative or positive, the (health) status is the same," Saran was quoted saying by The News Minute.

SPB continues to be on life support, but his vital parameters are stabilising.

The veteran singer was admitted to the MGM Healthcare hospital in Chennai on Aug 5, after complaining of chest congestion, and he was diagnosed with the coronavirus. He released a video assuring his fans that he was in good healtj.

However, less than two weeks later, his condition deteroriated, with him being put on ventilator and ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) support, which is a mechanism where the blood is purified with machines outside the human body without using the heart or the lungs.

SPB's ill health caused Kollywood celebrities and fans alike to carry prayer sessions for his speedy recovery.
