The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of a 16-year-old girl.

Filmmaker Roopa Rao's film "Gantumoote" made a historic win at the recent New York Indian Film Festival. It is the first Kannada film to win the Best Screenplay award.

The ecstatic team expressed their happiness on social media and posted "Yayy! We Won! Congratulations #TeamGantumoote! Thank you so much New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) for making the first festival show, the premiere of Ameyukti's first production such a special one!!"

The story revolves around a 16-year-old girl and follows the journey of her struggles to understand herself while dealing with school, bullying and relationships. The film is told from her perspective.

"What I have wanted to see in Indian cinema all this while but haven't is the space where my stories are born from. So stories that I have witnessed happening to me or around me are my inspiration," says Roopa. "A coming-of age story from a girl's perspective is not just about sex or social issues but the psychological realisations that happen to a dreamy teenager. That's what 'Gantumoote' is all about."
