The Significance Of Getting Married During Brahma Muhurtham!

  • 26 Dec 2019

A Hindu marriage in Brahma Muhurtham is a rare occasion due to its peculiar time in between night and the morning but is still followed by some across the globe due to its significance.

Brahma Muhurtham refers to a period of 1 hour and 36 minutes before the sunrise, which ends at 48 minutes before sunrise. The time of Brahma Muhurtham varies each day, depending on the sunrise which falls at a different time each day.

Lord Brahma is referred to as the creator of mankind (the beginning of life), thus, the time of the day which saw the first ray of the sun is referred to as Brahma Muhurtham.

But why is getting married in Brahma Muhurtham is considered to be very auspicious?

Higher chances of success

Getting married in an auspicious timing is an important aspect of a Hindu wedding. The auspicious timing is chosen based on five elements namely Vara (weekday), Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra (asterism), Yoga and Karana - which are determined through the planetary positions.

It is believed that the chances of troubled and unpleasant incidents to occur are less during the auspicious time, and the planned wedding will be going on without any obstacles.

Most auspicious time of the day

In Hinduism, it is believed that Brahma Muhurtham is the time when the Heavenly Gods ascend to earth to bless a couple.

But on a daily basis, it is the time the God of Sun rises (the sun emits the first ray), and during this time the first pooja and abhisehegam will be conducted at the temple for the deities. The Brahma Muhurtham is considered to be the most auspicious time of all compared to other auspicious times of the day.

A clearer state of mind

Brahma Muhurtham is said to be the time the mind is in its most stable state. Many yoga practicioners and even yogis consider this as the perfect time to meditate - as the light-blue rays emitted by the Sun prior to the sunrise will charge the human body and keep the mind calm and at an ideal condition.

According to Sadhguru, the natural production of melatonin in the human body is at peak during Brahma Muhurtham, and melatonin help to stabilise the body and mind.

And having a clear state of mind is definitely important when getting married, a decision that will last a lifetime.
