Legend says that Navratri is celebrated when GodDess Durga raged war and defeated demon Mahishasura over a period of 9 days.

These are some of the unknown facts about Navrathri:



1. It is believed that, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva granted Mahishasura a boon which protects him from all the men in the world.

2. Mahishasura believed that women are weak beings and no women will be able to take his life, or even threaten him.

3. Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva created Devi Durga by combinining their own divine powers, also known as their shaktis.

4. Mahishahura was mesmerized by goddess Durga's beauty and asked her hand in marriage, where the goddess agreed to marry him if he win her over in the battle.

5. Another legend says that King Ramar worshipped goddess Durga for nine days, as to successfully kill Ravana.
