All you need is onion juice and olive oil. For 3 tablespoons of onion juice, you would require about 1 1/2 tablespoons of olive oil. Now, combine them and apply to your hair and scalp.

Wait, what?

Yes, you read that right. This is not a salad dressing or early morning detox juice. Instead, it's what many people say is the 'magic potion' to combat hair loss.

As we all know, onion is a staple in cooking, almost every recipe has it as one of the ingredients.

But it's apparently also a staple in hair care. A study conducted in 2002 revealed that 86.9% of patients with a specific hair loss condition experienced hair re-growth when they washed their hair with onion juice,  compared to a group that used tap‐water (13%).

While there haven't been many studies to prove the theory of onions' restorative powers over balding scalps, the vegetable has long been considered a miracle food with amazing health benefits.

The 'Charaka Samhita', a Sanskrit text detailing Indian traditional medicine and Ayurveda, 'glorifies the onion plant as therapeutic for a diuretic, excellent for digestion, good for heart, eyes, and joints.'

Some sites say the high sulfur content in onions is one of the major reasons why it promotes hair growth. Sulfur has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which keep the scalp healthy and in turn nourishes the hair.

So, why don't you just give this a try! In case you are wondering where to begin, here's a list of recipes we found on StyleCraze.

Recipe 1
Ingredients:
1 tbsp Onion Juice
Cotton Pad

Application:
Apply onion juice on your scalp using cotton pads. Once you have covered the entire scalp, massage for a few minutes. You can wash and rinse your hair after 15 minutes. Follow the treatment on alternate days.

Recipe 2
Ingredients:
2 tbsp Onion Juice
2 tbsp Coconut Oil
5 drops Tea Tree Oil (if you have dandruff)

Application:
Combine all the liquids and massage into your hair and scalp. Leave for 30 minutes before washing. Follow the treatment on alternate days.

Recipe 3
Ingredients:
1 tbsp Onion Juice
1 Whole Egg
2-3 drops Rosemary/Lavender Essential Oil
Shower Cap

Application:
Whisk the onion juice and essential oil drops into the egg until smooth. Apply the blend to your hair and scalp. Leave the mask for 30 minutes. Only wash using cool water to avoid the egg in your hair from cooking. You can try this hair mask once or twice every week.

Please note that some people might be allergic to onions and if you experience itching and burning after applying the juice, wash off and consult a doctor immediately.
