A court in Mumbai has issued a fresh arrest warrant against controversial Muslim preacher Zakir Naik.

The non-bailable warrant was issued by the Prevent of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court judge PP Rajvaidya, following a plea filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing Naik over a 2016 money laundering case.

According to the ED, Naik has received Rs193.06 crore (RM113.42 million) as the proceeds of crime in the 2016 case.

Naik had last week, moved a plea via his lawyer, to seek up to two months to appear before the court. The plea was rejected and on Monday, the ED moved a fresh plea for the non-bailable warrant.

The ED booked Naik in 2016 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

A non-bailable warrant has previously been issued against Naik in the money laundering case.

Naik, 53, is wanted in India for alleged money laundering and inciting extremism through hate speeches.

He currently resides in Malaysia, where he has been granted permanent residency status.
