MIC Hopes For Cabinet Post For Its Sole MP

  • 02 Mar 2020

MIC has expressed hope that its sole MP - Tapah's M Saravanan, will be given a cabinet post in the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Party president SA Vigneswaran said the party is leaving it to Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss the matter with Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

"We hope there will be a chance for us, as MIC has gone without any posts (in the cabinet) for the past two years and we are used to it," the New Straits Times (NST) quoted Vigneswaran as saying at an MIC function in Sungai Petani, Kedah, last night.

Vigneswaran added that his party will not any problem working with the PN, which is seen as a Malay-Bumiputera coalition.

"For the past 60 years, we have gotten used to working with Malay leaders and we never had any problems.

"As for Umno, PAS, and Bersatu have been highlighting important issues involving the Malays, we (MIC) are a party that defends the Indian community."

He further alleged that unity, integration and ties between the different races in the country have been affected under the Pakatan Harapan rule, and said the previous administration had "neglected" many agendas involving the Indian community.

“What has happened (the change of government) must be taken as a blessing for us to rise up again to ensure that the future of the Indian community is guaranteed."
