Penang Masi Magam Attendees Urged To Get Covid-19 Screening!

  • 16 Mar 2020

The Teluk Bahang Beach in Penang was crowded with devotees last week who released brightly lit floats into the sea in conjunction with the Masi Magam Theppa Thirunal (Floating Chariot Festival).

About 15,000 to 30,000 devotees turned out for the celebration at the Sri Singamuga Kaliamman Temple amidst the deadly Covid-19 outbreak throughout the globe.

Following the celebration, the Malaysia Hindu Sangam President RS Mohan Shan has urged the attendees to get Covid-19 screening.

"The attendees who experience flu, cough and fever should get the screening to ensure they are not affected by the novel Coronavirus."

To date, Malaysia has recorded a total of 428 cases - where most of the cases are related to the Tabligh gathering held at the Sri Petaling. Thus, the government is now urging everyone to avoid public gathering.

Malaysia now has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in all of Southeast Asia:
