Health Ministry Calls For Volunteers As it Steps Up Fight Against COVID-19

  • 30 Mar 2020

The Health Ministry has urged for medical practitioners in the country to sign up as volunteers, as its steps up its fight against the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the ministry's director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, about 1,008 volunteers have signed up, and 150 have been mobilised thus far.

"We are encouraging more volunteers among doctors, nurses, and others to sign up and help us in providing medical assistance (during the pandemic).

"We need to know their area of specialisation, as well as their current locations, whether it is in Kuala Lumpur, or Tawau, or Lahad Datu before we can mobilise them accordingly," he reportedly told a press conference yesterday, according to the New Straits Times (NST).

The corona virus has infected about 2,470 people in the country, as of yesterday, and claimed 34 lives.

Globally, the number of casualties stand at over 720,000 cases, and more than 33,000 people have lost their lives to the disease.

It's not all doom and gloom, however, as more than 151,000 people worldwide have recovered from the disease.
