RMCO: Theme Parks Can Reopen From July 1

The government has greenlit the reopening of theme parks from July 1.

Senior minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in his COVID-19 briefing today, said the parks, however, should follow strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.

"The government has decided that theme parks, both wet and dry, can reopen from July 1.

"This move will involve 54 theme parks nationwide, and 10,000 employees," he said.

Ismail stressed that the park operators, however, must follow the SOPs, such as maintaining social distancing measures, having their visitors' temperatures taken, and providing hand sanitisers at the premises.

"Wet theme parks must also follow the government's reopening guidelines on premises that involve water, such as swimming pools."

The number of visitors allowed in the parks will be subject to the size of the venue.

Meanwhile, on another matter, Ismail said visitors to shopping malls and hotels will have to get their temperature taken only once, at the entrance, from now on.

"Previously, we have received feedback from people that they have to get their temperature taken at every shop they frequent, inside a mall or a hotel, despite having the data recorded at the front entrance itself.

"From now on, they have to get their temperature taken only once, upon entry at the main door. However, they still must provide their personal particulars to every shop they visit, within a mall or hotel, either via MySejahtera app or manually writing them down, to allow contact tracing," he said.

The government is currently under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) until August 31, where a lot of initially imposed restrictions have been gradually loosened, in light of decreasing COVID-19 cases in the country.

The COVID-19 outbreak has thus far infected 8,634 people in Malaysia, and killed 121.

Globally, the disease has infected more than 10.2 million people and over 500,000 people have died from it.
