Cops are looking for a man who was caught on video placing three cats into washing machines at a self-service laundrette in Kepong, early yesterday.

Police say the 30-year-old suspect was caught on the laundrette's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, placing the three animals into three separate washing machines, about 5.30am yesterday.

The drowned animals were discovered about 9am by a woman who wanted to do laundry at the outlet, and subsequently lodged a police report.

If found guilty, the suspect can be fined up to RM20,000 and RM100,000, or jailed between one and three years, under the Animal Welfare Act 2015.

This is reminiscent of the incident where three suspects were caught on video placing a pregnant cat into a dryer at a self-service laundry in Taman Gombak Ria, Batu Caves, two years ago.

The three suspects - K Ganesh, 42, A Mohanraj, 42, and SS Satthiya, 26, were charged with the offence in November last year.

Ganesh was sentenced to 34 months' jail and fined RM40,000, while Mohanraj was sentenced to two years' jail. Satthiya, meanwhile, was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.
