Health Ministry Wants The RMCO To Be Extended Further

  • 24 Aug 2020

The Health Ministry has advised the government to extend the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), which is in force until Aug 31 this year, until the COVID-19 pandemic is brought under control.

According to Health Minister Dr Adham Baba, this in light of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) anticipation that the coronavirus threat will be around for at least another two years.

Adham said his ministry has advised the National Security Council (NSC) and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on the extension and now it is up to the NSC and PM to make a decision on the matter.

The minister is not alone in the call to extend the RMCO. Other medical experts and business groups have made similar calls recently.

This especially with the country still experiencing the breakout of new COVID-19 clusters, involving both local transmissions and imported ones.

As of noon yesterday, the country has a total of 9,276 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 125 deaths.

The pandemic continues to rage on elsewhere in the world, with more than 23.5 million confirmed cases and over 812,000 deaths.

As for the country ranking, India ranks third with more than 3 million cases and over 57,000 deaths from the disease. Malaysia ranks 89th in the number of cases and deaths.

So do you think the RMCO should be extended further, or have Malaysians been restricted enough?
